Hard drives are notoriously prone to errors if not treated in the kindest ways. Now there is a new solution to the age old problem and it come in the shape of SSD drives or to use its full title solid state drive. SSD drives work in a similar way to a usb flash drive in that it does not contains any platters and so need no moving parts.
The main difference between usb flash drives and SSD drives is that usb flash drive where designed to work as an add storage device for your data and SSD drives have been developed to replace your computer’s hard drive all together. The SSD drive is far more robust, uses less energy to work and is also quicker that the average hard drive found in your computer or laptop.
The biggest problem that has held back to domination of SSD drives is simply the cost per meg. SSD drive cost around 5 times more than a standard hard drive in terms of cost per meg but that price is now beginning to come down. You can now get 128gb SSD drives and 256gb SSD drive for reasonable money and this price will only get better and more and more people purchase the products.
All the top known brand are now working on their own SSD drives including Kingston, Corsair, Intel, Toshiba and many more. |
