A new specification was introduced by the Secure Digital Card Association that specified the minimum data transfer rate required for standard and high capacity Secure Digital Cards. The specification highlighted the fact that the new Secure Digital Cards had the ability to store between 4gb to 32gb and that you could do more at ever greater speeds across the entire Secure Digital Memory Card line. The high capacity Secure Digital Memory Cards are recognised by the inclusion on all cards of "HC" or "SDHC" to make sure the consumer is not confused and that the new capability is clearly designated. Of course more storage is just one part of the Secure Digital Memory Card issue, with more memory comes the need for more speed. This problem is solved with the introduction of 3 new speed classes. The new speed classes will allow host products to check the Secure Digital Card fragmented state and calculate the correct write speed for each part of the card. This allows the host to quickly determine the best place to write the data to according to its data speed requirement. There are three SDHC speed classes and they are : Class 6, Class 4 and Class 2 - ensuring transfer speeds of at least 6, 4 and 2mb per second. This ensures that each product can be analyzed for suitability and guarantee performance of your products.
